Sport career

Mr. Željko Mavrović started a sport career as a boxing amateur at the Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea and Barcelona, Spain, as well as winning the Gold Medal at Mediterranean Games in Athens, Greece.

As a boxing amateur, Mr. Mavrović won a prestige trophy “The Golden Glove” for a season of 1990, at the most important boxing contest of the former Republic of Yugoslavia.

In his professional career, Mr. Mavrović won at the European Championship and became the Champion of Europe, heavy category, in season 1995. Mr. Mavrović defended the Title seven times within next three years of his professional boxing career. In 1998 he challenged Lenox Lewis, aiming to win the title of the Champion of the World. Mr. Mavrović lost 12 rounds match by points, judges decided in favor to Lennox.

He was honored with the title of the sportsman of the year in 1995 and 1997 in the traditional selection of the well known Croatian Sport News newspaper.
